Commodity trading refers trading of products that are basically raw material or primary products.

Commodity trading can be classified into two types

Agricultural commodities are grown in fields as the name connotes. Corns, Cotton, wheat, pepper, soyabean, soyabean oil, sugar etc are the examples of agricultural commodity. Weather plays a major role in agriculture commodity market as these products are subjects to spoilage.

Non agricultural commodities are typically mined or taken from other natural resources. In most of the cases the initial products are refined into further commodities. For example oil is further refined for gasoline. Some of the agricultural commodities are copper, Iron ore, Gas, Oil, Gold, Silver platinum etc. One of the important aspects of non agricultural commodities is that regions where they are mined or taken are not necessarily those regions in which they are used.
